Industrial Revolution WebQuest: Tasks

Before you begin this WebQuest, please make sure you have your accompanying packet ready to go.  While there will be occasional parts of this WebQuest which require you to respond online, the majority of your work will be done on this packet, and then submitted on its due date for a project grade.  If you have lost your hard copy of the Industrial Revolution WebQuest packet, please download another copy and print it out:

Industrial Revolution WebQuest

Over the next several days, you will move through the following tasks to gain a better understanding the economic, social, and political causes and consequences of the Industrial Revolution(s).  You should proceed through the tasks in order; the material from Task One will help you to better understand Task Two and so on.  You will find links to the next task at the bottom of each page, or you can return here or navigate the site through the drop-down menus above.

Task One: Agricultural Revolution

The student will learn about the effects of the Agricultural Revolution, the Enclosure Acts, and the cottage industry system.

Task Two: Why Britain?

The student will attempt to determine what factors led to the development of the Industrial Revolution(s) in Great Britain.

Task Three: First Industrial Revolution (1750 to 1850 CE)

The student will examine information about innovations to the textile industry, transportation, and the reaction against mechanization.

Task Four: Second Industrial Revolution (1850 to 1910 CE)

The student will research the uses and long-term effects of many inventions relating to transportation, communication, and production.

Task Five: Social Transformations

The student will learn about the effects of the Industrial Revolution(s) on society by examining art, literature, and other sources.

Task Six: Industrial Revolutions Outside of Britain

The student will examine the spread of industrialism outside of Britain.

Task Seven: Reforming the Revolution(s)

The student will undertake to assess the effect of the Industrial Revolution(s) with regards to health, environment, labor, and safety.
